Aitken Alexander Associates is always interested to consider material of a high quality. Before submitting to us we advise you to look at our existing client list to establish whether your work will be of interest. Equally, you should consider whether the material you have written is ready to submit to a literary agency. If you feel your work qualifies, then send us a letter introducing yourself: keep it relevant to your writing (eg tell us about any previously published work, be it a short story or journalism; you may be studying or have completed a post-graduate qualification in creative writing; when it comes to non-fiction, we would want to know what qualifies you to write about the subject).
With your letter, you should send a synopsis/summary, ideally a paragraph, but no longer than one page, plus the first thirty pages of consecutively written sample material (in other words, do not send sample chapters from beginning, middle and end). Presentation: your typewritten pages should be double-spaced, single-sided, loose-leaf A4, and you should tell us whether you'd like the entire submission to be returned to you (if not suitable) - if you do, you need to include an adequately sized stamped addressed envelope. Otherwise, you can simply send us a stamped addressed envelope for our reply. For fiction, we require that books be completed before submitting.
All screenplay submissions should be marked for the attention of Lesley Thorne.
We are unable to accept submissions or enquiries by email.
Unless you intend your submission to be considered by a specific literary agent, please send your material to:
The Submissions Department
Aitken Alexander Associates
18-21 Cavaye Place
London

Under normal circumstances we will reply to you within 6-8 weeks of receiving your submission. Submissions that are of interest to Aitken Alexander Associates will be passed to one of our agents, who will then be in touch with you. Please do not contact our office to check on the status of your submission as, due to the quantity of submissions sent to us, we do not keep records of work received.
Please note that whilst every care is taken with submissions, Aitken Alexander Associates cannot accept responsibility for any material sent to us. It is your responsibility to keep copies of any original work.
