Anne Sebba

Anne Sebba is a journalist, lecturer, biographer and former Reuters correspondent. She has written nine books, several short stories and introductions to reprinted novels and sits on the board of two NGO’s - The PEN Writers in Prison Committee and YaD, a charity promoting cross-fertilisation between Jewish, Arab and other cultures. She is also on the Broadcast Committee of the Society of Authors and an advisor to Artsrichmond. Her most recent book is The Exiled Collector: William Bankes and the Making of an English Country House (John Murray 2004). Edmund White says: “This wonderful book… Anne Sebba has written this record of exquisite taste and brutal suffering with equal measures of verve, tact and eloquence.” She has written a play based on the 1833 trial of William Bankes for Indecent Assault and sold an option on a film about this story. Her latest book Jennie Churchill, Winston's American Mother, will be published in September by John Murray in UK and by W.W. Norton in US in November. In 2003 she was Associate Producer and originator of the award-winning Channel 4 Film: Mother Teresa; The Saint Making Business, based on her 1998 book, Mother Teresa: Beyond The Image, translated into seven languages and serialised in The Times. Geoffrey Moorhouse described it as “a biographical triumph.” She is also the author of Battling For News: the Rise of theWoman Reporter, Laura Ashley a Life by Design, Enid Bagnold: A Life, Samplers: Five Centuries of a Gentle Craft as well as two biographies for children. In 2007 she is the judge for three literary prizes: the HH Wingate/ Jewish Quarterly prize for fiction and non fiction, the Society of Authors Imison award for best original radio drama script by a writer new to radio and the 2007 Biographers' Club award.
