Bruce Chatwin
Bruce Chatwin was born in Sheffield in 1940. After working first for Sotheby’s and then for the Sunday Times, he left to travel to Patagonia. His account of that trip won the Hawthornden Prize and the E.M. Forster Award. His other books include The Viceroy of Ouidah, On the Black Hill, The Songlines, Utz (which was shortlisted for the 1988 Booker Prize), and What Am I Doing Here. He died in 1989.
