Cyrus Mistry

Cyrus Mistry, now 48, published his first short story at the age of 20 in a Bombay magazine. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he wrote fiction, plays, short stories, screenplays, documentary film scripts and journalistic pieces. His stories, features and criticism have appeared in almost every well-known Indian magazine and newspaper. Some of his stories have also been anthologised and translated. In 1990, one of these, Percy, was made into a Gujarati film (Mistry wrote its screenplay) winning the National Award for Best Gujarati Film of the Year and the Critics' Award at the Mannheim Film Festival in the same year. In 1991, his prize-winning play, Doongaji House, was published by Praxis. Another stage play, The Legacy of Rage, is being published by the Sahitya Akademi (National Academy of Letters) later this year. With his first novel, The Radiance of Ashes, scheduled for release in the UK in July 2005, Mistry hopes to commence a second phase in his writing career; one devoted solely to fiction and theatre.
