Amitava Kumar
Amitava Kumar was born in Ara, India, and grew up in the nearby town of Patna, famous for its corruption, crushing poverty, and delicious mangoes. He is the author of Passport Photos (University of California Press and Penguin-India, 2000), Bombay-London-New York (Routledge and Penguin-India, 2002) and Husband of a Fanatic (New Press and Penguin-India, 2004). His writing has appeared in The New Statesman, The Nation, Harper’s, American Prospect, Transition, and other publications. Kumar is the script-writer and narrator of a prize-winning documentary, Pure Chutney (1997).
